Such an excellent story. Thank you so much for sharing. It was a different time for sure, but the kindness of strangers remains when we are as brave as you were then, and still are. Take care.
Thank you for sharing such an uplifting story of the warmth, kindness and compassion of two people. It offers hope that even in these chaotic times, if we aren’t afraid to “reach out and touch” others, we will see and better understand one another.
Wonderful story! I love Raul Julia's work, and got a peek of him in person at a Brazilian carnivale festival in LA many years ago. What a wonderful friendship!
Stephanie thank you. Your words sooth my roiling stomach. I'm going to keep reading your pieces. They're an antidote for these days. I read your Al Green piece before this one: perspective. Here's to not running down every rabbit hole.
Hi Stephanie. Martha Cronk, now Simons. BF JHS, RHS etc. Debbie White, now Bryant turned me onto your Substack. I believe the last time I saw you was at the Class of 77's 20th.
I never considered you quirky. I always thought we were part of the same tribe. I enjoyed your presence. I love your Raul Julia story. How fortunate we were to live so close to all of the cultural assets of NYC and the fascinating people who lived in our very own town.
My life and career ended up bringing me into close contact with a diverse group of famous interesting people eg. RBG, Rolling Stones, actors, artists of different types, entrepreneurs old money types, etc. My political activism lead me to meet Presidents, Congressmembers and so on. I eventually served in an local elected office. It's so good to read your blogs. Makes me remember how fortunate we were to grow up where and when we did and with who. There must have been something in the water in Ridgewood that gave us that curiosity and zest for life. Wonderful to hear your life stories, Stephanie at time when we need to hear good stories about creativity, love, peace and how good our country has been.

This is beautiful. I worked for actors for 25 years, and he was one of the best, onstage and off.
