My heart swelled with pride and admiration when after debate night unfolded in the unsuccessful manner it did for Pres Biden, I read somewhere (wish I remembered where) that VP Harris immediately got on the phone and contacted late night TV to offer her appearance to calm the waters and support Biden! She's got his back, and he's got hers! That's the way a team works. #BidenHarris2024

I think it’s all but certain that misogyny and racism are affecting favorability polls of VP Harris. Plus, I assume the president’s (low) favorability also affects the VP. But a heads up that these VP polls have been around since at least Dan Quayle, and I assume longer.

I didn't say there was never any previous polling on vice presidents. I said "it was not a common thing to conduct standalone popularity polls on the vice president. They were just treated as part of the team and the polls focused on the president, not the VP. Perhaps there are some polls out there from that period that I didn’t find, but if there are, they weren’t very prevalent and were very few and far between."

Dan Quayle was a different case - he had problems that he brought on himself with his goofy comments and behavior ("potatoe"). But the press didn't constantly conduct polls on him or engage in endless speculation about whether he should be removed from the ticket because he was "unpopular" and they didn't accuse him of poor performance because "he's not visible enough

"

Ah. Maybe I’m just misunderstanding what you mean by standalone polls. Anyway, I agree with the gist of your take, even if I have a quibble with that detail.
